Don't use FMU for pregnancy tests

That is what the girls babysitter told me today- when we went to pick up our dog (she watched him while we were on vacay). She said that she was watching a show & the doctor said to use 2nd morning urine instead. IDK the reason, she didn't hear that part, she said she was too busy trying to etch that in her head so she'd remember to tell me!

Anyone else hear that? And if so, what is the reason?

LOL, FMU should be the most concentrated, so that doesn't make sense. That said, I had a BFN at 11 dpo w/FMU (FRER) and then got a BFP on an Equate with 3rd or 4th "morning" (afternoon) urine!

Could she be thinking OPKs? I know you're not supposed to use FMU with them (though I do). I will say that I had a BFN with FMU when 8 DPO and that night got a BFP.

15. Do I have to test with my first morning urine (FMU)? Not necessarily. In general, FMU is the most concentrated urine of the day and thus more likely to have built up more hCG in it. If you are testing early (before 14 DPO), the HPT is more likely to detect the hCG in your FMU. After 14 DPO there should be enough hCG to be detected at any time of day. Some women have better luck with second morning urine (SMU.) A good rule of thumb: hold your pee for 3-4 hours (and drink as little as possible!) Then pee in a cup. If your urine looks nice and yellow, it's concentrated enough for testing (see FAQ 16 below for more info on peeing in cups vs. peeing on sticks.) If it looks diluted, dump it and try again later.

never heard it. I even did some research online and nothing states DON'T use FMU. Most use the words "FMU" and "ideal sample" in the same sentence! Perhaps she misunderstood and they really meant that you do not HAVE to use FMU, that SMU could also show a positive as well? There were many sites that said FMU was not required but to hold your urine.

I kind of agree that it might not be best. I got a super duper faint line one morning and with SMU I got a definite line
