Ceftin (cefuroxime)

Ceftin - (Cefuroxime)

Cefuroxime is used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Pregnancy and Breast Feeding
Studies have not been done on pregnant women, however it was reported to not cause and problems in animal studies.
This will pass into breast milk, usually in small amounts. However, it has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.

This medicine can be taken on a full or empty stomach.

Dosing

For oral dosages -

Infants and children 3-12 months of age 4.54 to 6.81 mg per pound of body weight every 12 hours for 10 days.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one, and go to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up.

In some patients this caused diarrhea. Severe diarrhea may be a sign of a serious side effect

Less common side effects -

Abdominal or stomach cramps and pain (severe); abdominal tenderness; diarrhea (watery and sever which may also be bloody); fever; unusual bleeding or bruising.

**note that some of these side effects may also occur up to several weeks after you stop taking this medicine.

Rare -

Blistering, peeling, or loosening of skin; convulsions (seizures); decrease in urine output; hearing loss (most common when used to treat meningitis); joint pain; loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting; pain, redness, and swelling at injection site; trouble breathing; unusual tiredness or weakness; yellowin of the eyes or skin rash.
