Does anyone do this? I found myself researching canning and making my own soap today. I have no idea how that connection happened but it did.

So does anyone do any canning? I am seriously considering doing this.

I am looking to pickle some of the veggies in my garden when the time comes. I love pickled carrots.

I used to pick wild strawberries and make my own jam and can it.

I made a deal with my MIL - she gives me the veggies/fruit from her garden and I give her half of the stuff canned from it.

It only happened once because her boyfriend likes my stewed tomatoes too much.

My stewed tomatoes were far superior to the canned from the store.

Edit: Canned wild game [only tried deer/moose/rabbit] looses lots of it's gamieness when canned and eaten months later. Cooked with onions and canned - it's a really quick way to add meat to meals.

Once we have a house with a yard and I can grow the stuff myself I will again invest in the canning supplies.
