Anyone ever heard of this?
D-mer? http://www.d-mer.org/ I've never heard of it, and I'm not sure how reliable this website is. But if it's real, I'm pretty sure that's what I had. In the beginning and for the first 3 or 4 months, I had an extreme feeling of sadness/depression right when I started breastfeeding until the letdown. It was so strange. I had mentioned it to my doctor, and that was the appt. when she tried to talk me into weaning. It doesn't do it anymore. It was the weirdest thing, b/c it wouldn't last long at all. I even went on PPD message boards looking for people who'd also experienced it, and I actually found some. Anyway, kindof makes me feel better to know that I'm not crazy and that there was a physiological reason for it.

I hated breastfeeding the first 3-4 months but I always connected it to PPD. I wonder if the LLL knows anything about this...

I have read this on another board. The posted a poll and a lot of women get this feeling. I had this for the first month or so too.

That was the weird thing about it. It didn't make me dislike b/f. I always knew I was going to have that strong, depressing feeling at first, but I knew it would go away shortly.

Yes, that's the weird thing, I wanted to be breastfeeding, glad I was doing it, happy to do it but once my let down let down I wanted to scream and run away from it. It was so weird.

Weird. That sounds exactly opposite of my problem. I wonder if there's another term for that. I'm sure there is, there's a term for everything nowadays.

Ok there probably is but not everything needs a name. I know I mad a moderate amount of PPD and next time I'll seek more help. Then again nothing is like having your first child.
Thanks for posting the link.

O.M.G. This happened with me, when I had my son!
Heather, I never read/saw your post on this whenever it was happening with you, and I have NEVER EVER heard of anyone else experiencing this. Man, it feels so good when you find out you aren't the only one, and that you are not crazy.
I don't think my feelings were as extreme as some women's may be, but I ALWAYS felt that feeling in my stomach before the let-down, and then it would go away. When I would try to describe it to anyone, I called it a feeling of "home-sickness". To explain that, I moved from my home about seven years ago, and it was very hard on me. Whenever I felt really homesick and sad, I would feel that feeling in my stomach. So that is why I equated it with that.
With my daughter, it barely happens. Not as strong as it was with my son.
Man, thank you so much for posting this! I am amazed that it has a name!!

Lisa, I'm pretty sure I never mentioned it before on here. I know I told Dh about it often, and that's exactly how it felt to me too! I always said I just felt a feeling of overwhelming depression for a couple of minutes.
Shay, I thought I was having some PPD, too, but now I'm not so sure that's what it was. I mean Cohen screamed all day for a couple of months, and that mixed with sleep deprivation, and the fact that it was my first baby, and I had no idea WTH I was doing, yeah. I feel 100% better now.

I hadn't heard of it before. I checked out the link. I definitely didn't have it, but I'm glad you found some answers, Heather! I'm also glad you feel better now.
